Kim Delaney (born Kim Delaney) is an American actor best known for portraying Detective Diane Russell in ABCs NYPD Blue, for which she earned the Emmy Award. She has also starred in shows like All My Children Philly CSI: Miami, Army Wives and CSI: Miami. Delaney was the child of an executive from the United Auto Workers who was also the mother of her children. Delaney has four older brothers. The idea of being a reporter for the court in the early years of her life, however she began modelling in high school and eventually gaining commercials when she moved into New York. Her first acting job was as a teen innocent in All My Children, a soap-opera from 1981. Delaney is well-known as an actress who has been in many films, TV movies, and dramas. Contrary to her career success, her personal life is not happy and prosperous. The accomplished actress battled addiction to alcohol, and was married twice only to fail. In 2005 she lost the custody of her son.
