Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up within New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. Mitchell joined CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She became a Washington general correspondent with NBC News two years later. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the principal journalist for Congress. She was appointed chief White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell is a regular in the TV news program Meet the Press as a host and panelist. She was on the panel of the 1988 presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married Alan Greenspan a former chairman the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 to recognize her efforts in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell covered in the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Her reporting included a number of crucial stories such as the Iran-contra affair, the tax and budget reforms in addition to the arms control. She traveled extensively with the president Reagan to meet along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
